Equipment - please bring with you

General equipment:

  • sleeping bag; blankets are provided
  • thermal camping mat (in winter)
  • pocket torch or head torch
  • lighter (to burn toilet paper)
  • bag for your clothes etc.; no suitcases or rucksacks with metal bracing, please
  • small backpack for during the day
  • light, comfortable shoes for walking (not walking boots)
  • comfortable sandals
  • thermos, if you don’t want to drink warm water out of the plastic bottles - optional
  • sunglasses
  • means of protecting your camera (if you bring one) against the sand!

Hygiene and medicine (in addition to your standard washbag):

  • toilet roll
  • face wipes
  • soap
  • suncream and sun protection for your lips, depending on your skin type; the sun’s intensity corresponds to that in the mountains or on the beach
  • personal medication
  • the following medicines could prove useful: charcoal tablets (to combat upset stomachs), Immodium (anti-diarrhea) and Motilium (anti-nausea), an analgesic like Ibuprofen, eye-drops, bite-cream. (Consult your doctor for more detailed advice)

Clothes

  • roomy, long-sleeved comfortable clothes, like cotton trousers and shirts; the dry climate means clothes stay fresh for longer, so you don’t need to bring many clothes; bare arms and legs are to be avoided since they speed up dehydration and, in the case of women, in order to show respect to local culture
  • thermal underwear (perfect for evenings and to sleep in) - optional
  • comfortable pyjamas
  • scarf
  • warm clothes for the evenings
  • windproof jacket
